Meet John Norberg!

John Norberg is a writer, author, humorist and a chronicler of the human condition living in Lafayette, Ind. He's also a husband, the father of three adult children and he has five grandchildren to spoil.

Retired as Director of Communications for Development at Purdue University, he began his humor column in 1971 while working the Brazil (IN) Daily Times. It appeared in the Lafayette (IN) Journal and Courier first occasionally in 1972 and then regularly from March of 1973 to October of 2014. During his time at the J&C, he also was known for his award-winning news and feature stories, most about residents in this north-central Indiana area. He has received more than 50 state and national reporting awards. In September, 2016, he was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.

A nationally respected, award-winning speechwriter and public speaker, he also is the author of 8 books, the most recent of which details the story of Jerry Ross, NASA's most frequent flier. Spacewalker: My Journey in Space and Faith as NASA's Record-Setting Frequent Flyer includes papers, material and video from Ross that detail his journey from a loving family in rural Indiana to role he played in establishing the International Space Station. His next book, Ever True: The 150 Year Story of Purdue University, is scheduled to be published by Purdue Press in the fall of 2018.

John, who was born April 12, 1948 in Oak Park, IL, grew up on the northside of Chicago in Skokie and Mount Prospect. He graduated from DePauw University in Indiana in 1970 and settled in that state. He started his newspaper career at the Brazil Daily Times and before signing on at the Journal and Courier in 1972. He left the newspaper business in 2000 to become a speechwriter for the president of Purdue University but continued to write his weekly humor column for the J&C until October, 2014. Purdue Boilermaker award for writing Norberg also has written articles for various national publications, including the Saturday Evening Post , USA Today, the Christian Science Moniter  and Time   magazine. He was most recently honored with the prestigious Purdue Univeristy Boilermaker Award for his contributions to Purdue University.

Besides his family and writing, John is fond of old movies, sports (Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls, Black Hawks, and Purdue Boilermakers), singing in the car, comfortable shoes, travel and ice cream, not necessarily in that order.
